Exchange 2007 has more than 10 services for all Server’s Role, this document explain all Exchange 2007 Services.

Common Services

· Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology – MSExchangeADTopology -Provide Active Directory Topology Information, if the service stopped most Exchange services not start (not function in Edge Server).

· Microsoft Exchange Monitoring – MSExchangeMonitoring - Enable application to call to Exchange Diagnostic Cmdlet- if this service stop the Cmdlet will not working.

Client Access Server

· Microsoft Exchange File Distribution – MSExchangeFDS - provides file distribution services – if this service stop the OAB cannot get contents from Mailbox Server (OABGen) – if this service stopped the OAB do not synchronize.

· Microsoft Exchange POP3 - MSExchangePOP3- Provides POP3 services to POP3 clients – if this service stop POP3 client cannot log on to their mailboxes.

· Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 - MSExchangeIMAP4 - Provides IMAP4 services to IMAP clients – if this service stopped client cannot log on to their mailboxes.

· Microsoft Exchange Service Host – MSExchangeServiceHost – Configure Rpc & Registry Data – if this service stop we cannot configure Outlook Anywhere.

Hub (Transport Server)

· Microsoft Exchange EdgeSynce – MSExchangeEdgeSync - synchronize data between a Hub Transport server and an Edge server, if this service stops we cannot synchronize instance between two server roles.

· Microsoft Exchange Transport Log Search – MSExchangeTransportLogSearch - Provides message tracking and transport log, if this service stop we cannot searching for messages tracking.

· Microsoft Exchange Transport Service – MSExchangeTransport - Provides SMTP server and transport, if this service stop we cannot send email to external.

· Microsoft Exchange Anti-Spam Update – MSExchangeAntispamUpdate - automatically download anti-spam filter updates.

Mailbox Server

· Microsoft Exchange System Attendant – MSExchangeSA – Lookup for directory services, if this service stopped exchange DB stop working.

· Microsoft Exchange Replication Service – Provide Replication for LCR & CCR – if this service stopped there is no backup to the Exchange DB & Logs.

· Microsoft Exchange Service Host – MSExchangeServiceHost – Configure Rpc & Registry Data – if this service stopped.

· Microsoft Search (Exchange) - MSFTESQL-Exchange - Provides full-text indexing of mailbox data content.

· Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission Service – MSExchangeMailSubmission – Provide notification to Hub Server that messages are ready for retrieval from a sender’s outbox.

· Microsoft Exchange Transport Log Search – MSExchangeTransportLogSearch - Provides message tracking and transport log.

· Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistant – MSExchangeMailboxAssistants - Provides functionality for Calendar Attendant, Resource Booking Attendant, Out of Office Assistant, and Managed Folder Mailbox Assistant.

· Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer – MSExchangeSearch - Provides content to the Microsoft Search service for indexing.

Unified Messaging

· Microsoft Exchange Speech Engine – MSS - Provides speech processing services.

· Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging – MSExchangeUM - Provides Unified Messaging features like voice mail & fax.

Edge (Mail Relay Server)

· Microsoft Exchange ADAM.

· Microsoft Exchange Credential Service.

· Microsoft Exchange Transport Log Search – MSExchangeTransportLogSearch - Provides message tracking and transport log.

· Microsoft Exchange ADAM - ADAM_MSExchange - store configuration data and recipient data.

· Microsoft Exchange Credentials Service – EdgeCredentialSvc - Monitors credential changes in ADAM.
